We are back folks! Imaging is over and we are halfway recovered and halfway caught up from our week of over whelmingly(is that a word) intense learning. Serous guys Imaging wrinkled my brain, but we came back with some great ideas for 2010. Now its time for the hard part, implementing these new ideas. Lucky for us most of the ideas we have are on the business side of the company and we are already in the process of overhauling that end of things.
If "Focus" is the word for the year "Simplicity" is the goal. Simplicity for our clients in ordering and pricing and for ourselves in a simple business model that is set in stone and works.

This week has been a "focused" blur.
Continuing with our them of "Focus", this week has been a blur of finishing our homework for Tom, net working with some of Nashville's top photographers at our local pug group, and gearing up for......wait for it...... IMAGING!!!(ahhmm ... sorry i feel better now) For those that don't know, Imaging is the largest training conference for photographers in the nation. L and I are so excited to learn some great new practices, and tips that will help us with the business side of photography. Its going to be three days of amazing learning and we cant wait. Also on the agenda for the week is the first meeting of the Nashville SMUG group, with guest speakers the Bebbs, of Bebb Studio in Vancouver. Its going to be a packed week.

"Focus" the key to the New Year
Had an awesome meeting with former boss and mentor, Tom Uchida of Uchida photography yesterday. We had a blast talking about new ideas and plans for the future. Tom's family has been in the photography business for one hundred years (AMAZING), so to be getting business advice from Tom is pure GOLD. Biggest thing Tom showed L and I yesterday is that our learning curve is over. There is always room to improve your skill but there comes a point where you have to see your worth and start charging what you deserve. He also showed us that at our current price point we actually pay our clients $1.50 to take our 8x10 prints from us.
Toms challenge to L and I was to Focus, and not to let the artist in us to overthrow the business. If our session fee covers an hour of our time, don't shoot for two hours because we are having fun.(this has happened frequently) That's the artist taking over, and its not doing anything good for the business. So our homework? Be intentional with the types of sessions we want to shoot. Write it out, how long they are to take, if there is more than one location. Write it down and stick to it. Don't let the artist run the show. Look for the new list of sessions early next week. Have a great weekend and to borrow a line from the great Ron Burgundy "You stay classy, world."

2009 Launch Post.
This is our first blog post of 2010. Yes, I know that technically it is still 2009 ,but I have been doing some thinking today about all the happenings in 09 and starting to make plans/goals for 2010 and thought that this blog would be a good tool for turning those "plans" into reality.
So here is the back story: My name is Dustin. I am a christian, a son, a husband, and an artist. Along with my beautiful wife, Lindsey, we make up Dlimage a wedding and portrait studio. We have been actively pursuing our love of photography for one year now and have made gains but are still in our infantsy. We both hold other jobs. Lindsey is a bakery manager for Puffy Muffin, and I am a part time manager for UPS, which gives me my days free but can also cause insomnia. I developed a passion for photography in highschool and decided my sophomore year of collage to drop the business major and really pursue something i love, photography.
The goal of this blog is to keep us moving forward, to keep us on track with our goals for 2010. It will track our success and our less than successful ventures. Look for our list of Goals for the year to come and if you see us going astray let us know and give us pointers.

And because no blog post is complete with out a picture here is one of "L" and I.
